Tungaloy has improved the ISO positive turning inserts with the "-01" geometry, including a 0.4 mm (0.0157") nose radius with a negative tolerance, specifically for precision finishing in Swiss turning applications. New The -01 geometry is designed to provide consistent chip control with an extremely light depth of cut of 0.5 mm (0.020 inch) or less.

The introduction of 0.4 mm nose radius inserts is due to increased demand in the Swiss turning market, where workpieces with 0.4 mm fillet radius requirements are as popular as those with 0.2 mm radius. In addition, these corner radii usually require finishing to be equal to or smaller than the required radius size to minimize the impact on dimensional accuracy. Therefore, the blade nose radius of the -01 geometry is designed and manufactured within the negative tolerance of the nominal nose radius, and does not exceed it.

Combining with the existing JS geometry, the first choice for turning small parts, the enhanced series of -01 geometry provides customers with the best chipbreaker options, suitable for various cutting depths and feed rates in Swiss turning operations.

The -01 geometry is optimized for cutting depths of 0.5 mm (0.020 inches) or less, while the -JS geometry is suitable for cutting depths of 0.5 mm to 3.0 mm (0.020 inches to 0.118 inches).
